We all make use of our hands while we talk; this is to add meaning and possibly emphasis to what we are saying. If you try sitting on your hands while you are talking, it feels very unnatural. Signing makes use of this natural desire.
Children need to learn the core vocabulary words as they are the basic building blocks of successful communication. They are listed at the start of each section and have been carefully selected to match the developmental level of the children.
